Black Chasm National Landmark

IMG_8329.JPGBlack Chasm is a natural underground cave located in Volcano California, only few minutes drive from where we are staying in California. Tim and I took a break from the afternoon heat (high 90′s today) to take the 45 minute guided tour in the 57 degree chasm.

While Black Chasm was not as large as Leman Caves (2010 visit to Great Basin National Park), it was still very unique. While Leman caves was a longer hike, it stayed fairly horizontal. Black Cavern on the other hand, was a much greater vertical cavern and the senses made sure you knew it as you were scaling the steep stairs into the cavern. The “rooms” were smaller as well, but still offered some spectacular displays. All in all, a well spent hour out of the heat of California.
