Petroglyph National Monument

IMG_6056.JPGAs I traveled North toward Colorado, I was in need of a fuel stop and a lunch break. Not far off my path was the Petroplgyh Ntnl Monument so I decided to spend my few hours there instead of at a truck stop.

I stopped in at the visitors center and got the low-down from the Ranger on the couple trails that were available to hike. I chose the trail less traveled to see some of the artwork and country side. Needless to say, the country side is quite literally the site of an ancient volcano. All the rock is volcanic… all surrounded by the fine sand of the desert.

IMG_6047.JPGI got my first picture of a road runner (I figured them much larger considering in the cartoon the bird was bigger than the coyote) and a few shots of the artwork etched into some of the rock before getting mobile again towards Colorado.
