In the land of the McCarrell’s

The plans I intended to follow yesterday, have already been tossed out.

Arizona, much like California, has too many city ordinances preventing over-night parking. Since I did not care to be rattled awake in the middle of the night, I moved on out of the ‘domesticated’ Tucson area and inched towards the McCarrell land about 100 miles SouthEast. Instead of arriving after sunset, I spent the night at a truck stop and woke before sunrise to get the final 30 miles done before the day really began.

I woke numerous time last night as the trucks moved in and out of the parking lot. Not that I am complaining, though the thought that I was the small guy hoping not to get squished by the big snoring bears as they moved about was on my mind all night.

I got to the McCarrell land by 7AM and settled the trailer in before heading back into Sierra Vista for some final supplies. Now, after lunch, I have only just begun wandering around to see where I can kill the time until Thursday before moving on into New Mexico.

UPDATE – I did get out for a short hike in the afternoon. Just South of me is a dried river bed… or really it is a ‘wash’ for the rain water which clearly runs fast as it has carved a 20-30ft high canyon into the desert. Lots of wild animal tracks and clear signs of border hopping going on in this area, though an enjoyable stroll.
